Set on a sloping site which leads down to pasture fields and a large expanse of water in the distance.  The lawn area was levelled out and pressure treated timber sleepers were installed to address the slope gradient for the plant border for viewing from the veranda above. Plenty of well-rotted farmyard manure was readily available and added to ameliorate the heavy clay soil.   The flower border is planted with a seasonal mix of perennials, bulbs and evergreen shrubs to provide interest throughout the year with a crescendo from mid summer and on into late autumn.  The four seasons hedging along the boundary on two sides provides bees with nectar from the flowers in spring, a mix of berries for birds in the winter and some good autumn foliage colour.
